Overview
The UPS store is typically a franchise store that specializes in shipping products all over the globe. However, store #3502 was much more than that. This UPS store is a print-hub for anything from the smallest of type setting to very large projects such as Rodeos and other large events.
My Role
As the Print lead/ Graphic Designer at the UPS store, I managed not only projects but also the store (including the employees). I was given the ability to run every machine and software within the store to complete my day-to-day task. I was also in charge of making sure we hit the print quota every month which the store typically achieves by creating promotional materials and offering huge discounts to customers. All of the print leads from the franchise stores would meet once a month to discuss improvements and how we could bring in more customers.
Customer relationships were very important during this role with the UPS because it would increase the retention rate in which clients would request design work from us.
I also had the task of making sure that all of our employees at the time could operate all of the equipment if need be. The equipment operated was the following: Ricoh production machine, Xante flatbed printer, Duplo 318, Latex 315 vinyl cutter, Blueprint printer, as well as both black and white/color copiers.
Skills Acquired
Expertise in branding, including logo design, color theory, and typography.
Advanced knowledge of digital marketing principles and how design supports marketing goals.
Leadership experience in managing design teams and client relationships.
Knowledge in how to operate the Ricoh C7200s, Xante flatbed printer, Duplo 318, and the Latex 315 vinyl cutter.
Communication skills to garner new clients and build relationships.
Working knowledge of Flexi.

Impact
This was my first role as a Lead in my career field. In which I learned a lot of new skills. Several of these skills I use on a day-to-day basis and they always seem to impress potential clients when I discuss with them the projects I have completed in the past and the vast knowledge of machinery I have for use in production.
