Lander Design Den
Jan 2021 - Jun 2021 (Internship)
Overview
Lander Design Den was a small student led group of interns and our goal each semester was create a memorable project to promote the school or other surrounding businesses. Typically, the team would reach out to clients using techniques such as "cold calling. However, in the year 2021 (the year in which I was chosen to be a part of the team) we were reached out to personally by the president to create the 150th anniversary of the school mural.
My Role
At Lander, I was deeply involved in the design and development of the 150th anniversary mural. My contributions included prototyping, designing, and collaborating with the development team to bring the finished product to life. As well as, re-designing the team apparel before the start of the project. Some of the hardships we faced was getting our design approved through the president's office. In which case, it took an entire month of back-and-forth revisions before we could move into the planning phase. I also worked on re-designing the team apparel.
Skills Acquired
Knowledge of materials, paints, and finishes suitable for public art.
Surface preparation and mural production methods (priming, scaling, painting techniques).
Use of projectors, grids, and other mural transfer methods.
Coordinating roles and responsibilities among team members.
Communicating with faculty, administration, and community stakeholders.
Impact
My time working with the Lander Design Den team was a transformative experience that expanded my skill set and deepened my understanding of the mural making process. A lot of research went into this project to make this mural the best we possibly could at the time. The mural is still on the campus and I hope that new students will continue to learn more about the history of Lander through our modern design.
